A Guide To O2’s Academy Venues In The United Kingdom

o2-academyThe Academy Music Group has a number of concert venues in partnership with O2 around the United Kingdom. There are 26 venues in different cities around the country which showcase live bands, stand up comedy, DJ events and much more. We have information about all of these venues, including contact details and addresses, below for your reference if you due to attend an event at any of them. You can sometimes acquire tickets for these events a few days early if you are on the O2 network with their Priority service.

O2 Academy Birmingham

The £5.5 million O2 Academy in Birmingham has three venues rolled into one. The main room is a 3860 capacity venue which features both a standing area and a seated one on a balcony. The medium sized venue can fit 600 people while the smallest one can contain 250. Parking is available at the Birmingham venue on Bowing Street and there is a curfew imposed on club nights. O2 Academy Bournemouth

There is a rich history to this Bournemouth venue. It was originally known as the Grand Pavilion Theatre, Boscombe Grand Theatre and Boscombe Hippodrome during which times in has been a music hall and circus among many other things. It is now an O2 Academy with an 1800 capacity including seating in the dress circle, Gods and royal boxes. O2 Academy Bristol

O2 Academy Brixton

One of several O2 venues based in the London area, the O2 Academy in Brixton is a venue that has hosted classic bands such as The Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Bob Dylan, The Clash and The Sex Pistols since it was first brought to life. The award winning location has a 4900 capacity that is split between the stalls and circle. It is based on 211 Stockwell Road at the postcode SW9 9SL. O2 Academy Glasgow

The O2 Academy in Glasgow officially opened in 2003 where the New Bedford Cinema was originally located. It is a 2500 capacity venue complete with boxes and a balcony. The venue also has a smaller room with a 1100 capacity. The venue is located at 121 Eglinton Street, Glasgow, G5 9NT. O2 Academy Islington

The North London based O2 Academy Islington  is one of the smallest in the company’s roster. The largest room only has a capacity of 800 with a smaller one that can hold just 250 people. The intimate venue has hosted shows from bands like The Courteeners and The Script in the past. There is an underground NCP car park near by and it is just a few minutes walk from Angel underground tube station. O2 Academy Leeds

The O2 Academy in Leeds was officially unveiled after a £4.5 million refurbishment that turned the former Town And Country Club, which played host to many of the ’90s biggest indie bands including Blur and The Stone Roses, into this state of the art venue. The 2300 capacity room was first performed in by Leeds’ own The Kaiser Chiefs, but it also has an Underground venue which is a more intimate 400 person capacity space. O2 Academy Leicester

The newest Academy venue in partnership with O2 is this Leicester venue with a 1450 capacity. The venue is part of the University Of Leicester’s Student Union after a £15 million refurbishment introduced entertainment facilities to the building. O2 Academy Liverpool

Liverpool’s O2 Academy is a 1200 warehouse style venue that resides on the former Lomax site. Upstairs there is a smaller, 500 capacity club venue. O2 Academy Newcastle

The O2 Academy is one of the few venues that has the ability to be both a standing and seated venue depending on the show. The main room is a 2000 capacity venue with 1620 standing places on the floor with an extra 380 places on the balcony. The O2 Academy 2 is a separate room that has a 400 person capacity. O2 Academy Oxford

Opened in September 2007, the former Zodiac is a 1000 capacity venue located at 190 Cowley Road, post code OX4 1UE. There is also a smaller venue, the Academy 2, located upstairs which has a smaller capacity of 430 people. The venue can be contacted on +44 1865 013 500.

O2 Academy Sheffield

The Roxy is a Sheffield music institution which has hosted classic acts like The Police, The Clash and even the late David Bowie during his Ziggy Stardust tour. It is now known as the O2 Academy after a £3.5 million redevelopment. Its main room is a 2350 capacity venue while a smaller secondary one holds 500 persons.
